If you own an Android device, it’s crucial to ensure you have the latest update from Google installed. The tech giant has just released a significant security patch to address a critical vulnerability affecting many new smartphones.

The security flaw pertains to specific Dolby audio components that, if present, could potentially enable hackers to execute malicious code through simple audio files.

Although Google fixed the issue on its Android devices last month, the patch is now being rolled out more widely and should soon be available for all Android phones.

Adam Boynton, Senior Security Strategy Manager EMEIA at Jamf, emphasized the importance of not overlooking the seriousness of the recently addressed vulnerability. The flaw, identified in 2025 and assigned CVE-2025-54957, centers around Dolby’s DD+ Unified Decoder, allowing attackers to run malicious code, particularly affecting Android OS due to the local decoding of audio attachments and voice messages without user interaction.

It is advisable to promptly check and update your phone’s settings to ensure it is fully protected. While iPhones are not affected by this particular vulnerability, Apple users are also urged to regularly check for updates to safeguard their personal data.

Boynton highlighted the significance of consistent patching as a highly effective measure against mobile threats, regardless of the operating system used. Keeping devices up-to-date is key to mitigating risks posed by modern mobile vulnerabilities.
