OVO has announced a generous initiative to distribute complimentary energy-saving items worth £56 million to assist individuals during the upcoming winter season. The support package includes free electric blankets, smart sockets, and home efficiency kits. Furthermore, OVO is offering additional aid such as free energy upgrades like loft insulation, new boilers, or heat pumps.
To further aid those in need, OVO is providing enhanced financial assistance, including reductions in direct debit payments, emergency credit top-ups, and extended repayment options. While the support is available year-round, applications for enhanced winter support will open in October. OVO has already allocated £190 million in assistance since 2022, benefiting 42,000 customers last year.
David Buttress, the CEO of OVO, emphasized the importance of collaborating with charity partners to provide substantial customer support. He highlighted the need for systemic improvements in the energy sector, calling for targeted aid in the form of a social tariff to ensure equitable access for all individuals.

Through their partnership with OVO, they aim to offer practical assistance to individuals across the country during the challenging winter months.
Vikki Brownridge, CEO at StepChange debt charity, commended the ongoing partnership with OVO, emphasizing the critical support it provides to customers facing energy bill challenges, especially during colder periods. The Extra Support program from OVO will offer guidance and assistance to individuals dealing with energy arrears and broader financial difficulties.
With energy bills expected to rise this winter, Ofgem’s price cap will increase from £1,720 to £1,755 annually starting on October 1. Recent polling by OVO indicates high levels of concern among consumers, with 91% expressing worries about their winter bills, a 71% increase from the previous year.
