A mother from Hull who underwent botched plastic surgery in Turkey is now battling a severe infection that is causing significant damage to her skin. Soreena O’Malley traveled to Turkey for a tummy tuck and 360 liposuction advertised on Facebook, but the procedure was not performed correctly, as confirmed by the NHS. Three months later, she is still bedridden in England due to poor wound healing and limited circulation.
The surgery left Soreena with a sizable abdominal wound, rendering her dependent on assistance for basic tasks like dressing. She expressed her frustration at being immobilized for so long after the surgery she had saved up for to address her body insecurities. Describing the aftermath, she lamented the extensive healing timeline ahead, estimating it might take up to two years to fully recover from the damage caused.
Concerned for others contemplating overseas cosmetic procedures, Soreena emphasized the importance of thorough research and caution. Recounting her pre-surgery experience, she recalled feeling unsettled upon arrival at the hospital and being pressured to pay upfront for a bed. She also highlighted the language barrier issue, noting that the consent forms were in Turkish without translation options.
In light of her ordeal, Soreena’s partner launched a fundraising campaign on GoFundMe to cover the costs of corrective surgery, with a target of £5,000. As of now, £426 has been raised towards the goal. For those willing to contribute, the donation page can be accessed here.
The NHS advises individuals to exercise caution when considering packaged cosmetic surgery deals online, emphasizing the importance of personal consultations with surgeons, visiting hospitals beforehand, and meeting the operating surgeon prior to any payments.
