A segment of Manchester Airport was cleared out as fire engines and airport security responded to the scene. Video footage captured at the airport’s visitor center depicted a fire engine arriving, accompanied by a large group of individuals exiting the premises amidst blaring alarms.
The evacuation was directed towards the airport’s Runway Visitor Park. Reports indicated that individuals were informed of a potential gas leak as the reason for the evacuation, although this had not been officially confirmed.
The recent incident at the airport has been successfully resolved, concluding our live coverage. Witnesses stated that the evacuation stemmed from suspicions of a gas leak in one of the visitor center kitchens. The M.E.N reported that the evacuation was a precautionary measure.
Kevin Todd, who was present at the time with his son, described the evacuation as “organized chaos,” with approximately 80-100 people being evacuated from the car park. He mentioned a foul odor reminiscent of rotting sewage lingering for about 20 minutes before alarms sounded, causing confusion among the staff.
Following the arrival of the fire brigade, the unpleasant smell dissipated. Additionally, cafes and shops were evacuated, leaving staff puzzled about the situation. According to the MEN reports, witnesses on-site observed three fire engines, two fire and rescue vehicles, and airport security personnel responding to the incident at the Manchester Airport Visitor Centre.
The entire vicinity surrounding the Visitor Centre was evacuated as a safety measure in response to the gas leak alert, prompting everyone to relocate to the car park area.
