Aldi has made public that it has decreased prices on more than 900 items in its product range in recent times. The supermarket has stated that it has dedicated over £300 million to lowering prices since the beginning of 2025, including various products like fresh fruits, vegetables, bread, dairy, and household essentials.
Julie Ashfield, the Chief Commercial Officer at Aldi UK, mentioned, “Due to rising inflation, many shoppers are more cautious about their spending habits. This is why we have already invested over £300 million in price reductions this year to ensure that Aldi customers continue to receive excellent value.”
Recognized as the most budget-friendly supermarket once again by Which?, Aldi was found to offer the lowest prices last month. According to the consumer group, a basket of 75 items cost an average of £127.92 at Aldi in August 2025, which was 38p cheaper than the same items at Lidl with its loyalty program Lidl Plus, costing £128.30 on average. The shopping list included both branded and own-brand items such as Birds Eye Peas, Hovis bread, milk, and butter.
Aldi has also announced its intention to launch approximately one new store weekly until the year’s end. Some confirmed locations include Sefton in Liverpool, Pacific Drive in Eastbourne, Brimington in Chesterfield, and Shoreditch in London.
The supermarket has updated its list of priority locations in the UK where it aims to establish new stores. Each site should be able to accommodate a 20,000 sq ft store with about 100 parking spaces and ideally be situated near a main road for visibility and accessibility.
Furthermore, Aldi is seeking suitable locations for its Aldi Local store format in Central London zones one and two, which typically require at least 5,000 sq ft of trading space and an additional 3,000 sq ft of ancillary space.
Aldi has confirmed that it will once again shut down all its stores on Boxing Day, reopening on December 27, 2025, to allow its staff to spend time with loved ones. Stores will also be closed on New Year’s Day and will resume operations on January 2, 2026. Aldi will have extended operating hours leading up to Christmas to accommodate customers preparing for the festive season.
