In Pennsylvania, a mother met a tragic end by the hands of eight hybrid pets she owned. Sandra L Piovesan, aged 50, was discovered lifeless by her daughter at their home in Salem Township, after being viciously attacked by her wolf-dog hybrids.

The fatal incident occurred within the electrically secured pen that Sandra had specifically built for her wolfdogs. An autopsy revealed that Sandra had died from blood loss caused by the attack. Dr. Cyril H. Wecht, a pathologist, noted that the most severe injuries were to her scalp and legs, suggesting that the wolves had suddenly stopped their aggression.

It was emphasized by Westmoreland County Humane Agent Elaine Gower that keeping hybrid wolves as pets poses significant risks due to their unpredictable nature and potential for aggressive behavior. Gower recalled warning Sandra about the dangers associated with these animals, citing a previous incident where one of Sandra’s acquaintances was also attacked by the wolfdogs.

Despite being registered as crossbreed dogs with the county treasurer’s office, the hybrids were perceived differently by Sandra depending on the situation. Following the tragic event, Sandra’s eight wolfdogs were euthanized to ensure public safety, as it was impossible to determine which of them had attacked her. The two adult Rottweilers, unrelated to the wolf-dog hybrids, were seized and will be rehomed in an animal sanctuary.
