Prince Albert authorities reported the discovery of human remains on Thursday in the ongoing search for a missing teenager last seen in June. The search, which involved the city’s public works and fire departments, as well as the Prince Albert Grand Council Search and Rescue, led to the finding of the body near the 300 block of 40th Street East, as per a police statement.
An autopsy has been scheduled for Tuesday to identify the individual and ascertain the circumstances surrounding the death. The mother of the missing teenager, Peyton Flett, named Danica Moore, was informed by the police that they suspect the body belongs to her daughter, although she opted not to provide further details.
Authorities disclosed that an active investigation into the suspicious death is underway, with collaboration between the Saskatchewan Coroner’s Service, the police major crimes unit, and the forensic identification sections. A news conference held the day before involved the police, Prince Albert Grand Council, Shoal Lake Cree Nation, and Flett’s parents appealing to the public for any information that could aid in locating her.
The last known sighting of Flett was reported to be on June 16 or 17 in the vicinity of Marquis Road and Central Avenue near the Northern Lights Casino. Police are currently stationed at the discovery site, examining a wooded area near 40th Street, leading to traffic restrictions in the area. Authorities have advised people to steer clear of the location, promising to share more updates as they emerge.
