A 13-year-old from Cape Breton, Jake Campbell, successfully raised $21,000 for Make-A-Wish Canada by operating a hotdog stand with the support of generous donations. Last year, Jake and his family raised $3,000 through a similar initiative. This year, Jake aimed to double that amount, and they surpassed the goal. The hotdog stand was set up in the Russell Hawkins parking lot in Sydney, N.S., with supplies donated by No Frills and Wonder Bread. In addition to the funds generated from hotdog sales, people also made cash donations.
Hollie Quick, a senior development officer at Make-A-Wish Canada in Nova Scotia, expressed gratitude for the tremendous support received from the community. She mentioned that last year, Jake received an award in memory of a wish child who had passed away, which inspired him to expand his efforts this year. With the funds raised by Jake and his family, Make-A-Wish Canada will be able to fulfill the wishes of 81 children in Nova Scotia, which range from creating accessible outdoor spaces to family trips.
Jake emphasized the importance of supporting Make-A-Wish Canada, as it not only benefits the children but also their families. He highlighted that fulfilling a wish could be a significant moment for a child and their loved ones. Looking ahead, Jake is enthusiastic about his future fundraising plans and the impact he can make.
