Jockey Jody Jamieson and his horse Fifth and Five emerged victorious at the 67th Gold Cup and Saucer race held in Charlottetown on Saturday evening. Jamieson expressed his disbelief and joy, describing the win as a dream come true. Despite having triumphed in races with larger prize money before, he deemed this prestigious event as particularly remarkable.
The Gold Cup and Saucer race, boasting a $100,000 purse, attracts participants from various locations in North America to the Red Shores Racetrack and Casino annually. Jamieson, who had been watching the race since childhood, highlighted his father’s win in 2006 as a cherished memory until securing his own victory.
Reflecting on his winning strategy, Jamieson disclosed that he maintained his position behind the horse and driver in the first post position, near the inside rail. The race concluded with Fifth and Five crossing the finish line first in a time of 1:49.4, meeting all the criteria for success according to Jamieson.
Following the race, Jamieson and his team celebrated in the winners’ circle, describing the achievement as a dream fulfilled. Overwhelmed with emotions, he expressed uncertainty about ever coming down from the euphoria of the moment.
