Canadian beach volleyball pair Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson clinched the bronze medal at the Montreal Elite16 tournament held on home turf.
The duo, who won silver at the 2024 Olympics, staged a comeback to defeat Germany’s Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann with set scores of 20-22, 21-12, and 18-16, securing their spot on the podium.
Wilkerson led the charge with 32 attack points, 5 block points, and a serve point, while Humana-Paredes contributed 9 attack points.
The match had to be temporarily halted due to inclement weather before resuming.
Earlier in the day, Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson were defeated in the semifinals by Brazil’s Thamela Galil and Victoria Tosta in a close match with set scores of 21-19, 20-22, and 15-7.
This loss dashed their hopes of achieving a three-peat, but they still had a chance to compete for the bronze medal against Germany’s Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann later in the day.
The Canadian pair had previously clinched the Montreal titles in 2023 and 2025, with an Olympic silver in Paris in between.
Canadian men secure bronze
Canada’s Sam Schachter and Jonathan Pickett staged a remarkable comeback to secure another upset victory in the men’s bronze-medal match on Sunday.
The duo from Ontario defeated Norway’s Hendrik Mol and Mathias Berntsen after dropping the first set 16-21, then claiming the next two sets 28-26 and 15-12 to earn their first podium finish together at home.
Schachter and Pickett caused a major upset by defeating the top-seeded Jacob Hölting Nilsson and Elmer Andersson to reach the men’s semifinals at the FIVB Beach Pro Tour event on Saturday.
Despite their strong performance, the 39th-ranked Canadians fell short in the semifinals on Sunday morning, losing 2-1 (21-12, 16-21, 16-14) to Brazil’s Renato Andrew Lima de Carvalho and André Loyola Stein.
