The Professional Women’s Hockey League has reported that the Walter Cup, belonging to the Montreal Victoire, the league’s champion, is currently missing. The league issued a statement confirming that the trophy did not reach its intended destination as planned and is now working with the shipping company to locate it.

The trophy was scheduled to be transported to Lethbridge, Alberta, for a special event with Victoire forward Dara Greig. However, upon arrival, the container was found without the Walter Cup inside, prompting Greig to postpone her celebrations, including a public appearance at VisitLethbridge.com Arena.

Unlike the NHL’s Stanley Cup, the PWHL does not have a dedicated person to accompany the trophy during its travels with the players. The missing Walter Cup is not the one presented on the ice during the championship win; that version is permanently displayed at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto. The missing cup is a replica issued to the championship-winning teams to keep.

The Walter Cup, made of sterling silver and crafted by Tiffany & Co., weighs approximately 35 pounds and stands at 24 inches in height and 13 inches in width. It features six engraved W’s representing the league’s original six franchises, with the base showcasing past championship teams.

Montreal secured the cup by defeating Ottawa in May, becoming the first Canadian team to win the PWHL title. The trophy is named after the league’s founder and primary sponsor, Mark Walter, owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, and his wife Kimbra.
