Toronto Hydro announced that power has been reinstated to numerous residents in the eastern part of the city and sections of downtown following an outage that lasted over an hour on Wednesday evening. Via a message shared on the social media platform X, the utility confirmed that power restoration was completed by 10:30 p.m.

Expressing regret for the inconvenience caused by the outage, Toronto Hydro thanked customers and the community for their patience and cooperation during the restoration process. The outage, which impacted more than 31,000 customers as of 9:40 p.m., was attributed to a loss of supply from Hydro One, as reported by Toronto Hydro.

During the outage, the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) noted disruptions to elevators and escalators at multiple Line 2 subway stations. Additionally, Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) disclosed a power failure at several buildings, advising occupants to vacate the premises promptly or avoid the affected areas due to safety concerns.

The affected buildings at the Toronto Campus included Eric Palin Hall, Sally Horsfall Eaton Centre for Studies in Community Health, Rogers Communications Centre, Pitman Hall, International Living/Learning Centre, and Kerr Hall. TMU stressed the need for evacuations from each building to prevent risks to safety systems like fire detection and sprinklers.

Furthermore, TMU announced the suspension of classes, labs, and exams during the evacuation, directing employees to seek alternative workspaces or take breaks nearby until power was fully restored.
