The ensemble of “Heated Rivalry” is expanding with new additions, as the Canadian-produced hockey series has enlisted three additional actors for its upcoming season. Initially gaining widespread popularity in its debut six-episode season, “Heated Rivalry” gained international recognition after being acquired by HBO in the U.S. and abroad, propelling the careers of its main stars – Hudson Williams, Connor Storrie, and François Arnaud.
The fresh faces announced as part of the rookie cast on Thursday include Milla Jovovich, Kevin Zegers, and Paul Gross. Jovovich, known for her roles in the “Resident Evil” franchise and “The Fifth Element,” joins the cast alongside Zegers, recognized for his work in “Gossip Girl” and “Transamerica,” and Gross, a prominent figure in Canadian film and television, famed for projects like “Due South,” “Men With Brooms,” and “Passchendaele,” which he also wrote and directed.
Inspired by Nova Scotia author Rachel Reid’s “Game Changers” novels, the series delves into the clandestine romance between two competitive young ice hockey players, Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov, portrayed by Williams and Storrie, respectively. In the upcoming season, Gross is set to play the role of hockey league commissioner Roger Crowell, while Zegers will take on the character of Coach Wiebe, the head of the Ottawa Centaurs – the fictional team Rozanov will be associated with. Jovovich will embody the character of Dr. Galina Molchalina, a therapist supporting Rozanov.
Furthermore, the production has announced the return of Season 1 actors Robbie G.K., Sophie Nélisse, Christina Chang, and Dylan Walsh to reprise their roles. The new season will also feature a lineup of Canadian talents, which includes Charlie Gillespie, Daniel Diemer, Emily Hampshire, and Priyanka in various roles.
Season 2 of “Heated Rivalry” is currently in production, with a scheduled premiere on Crave in Spring 2027. Despite its widespread acclaim, the series is not eligible for this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards, but it made a significant impact at the Canadian Screen Awards, securing multiple accolades, including the award for best drama and Williams’s recognition as the best lead performer.
