The Ottawa Rapid have introduced Carmelina Moscato, a former Canadian national team defender, as their new head coach for the upcoming season. This announcement comes after the current head coach, Katrine Pedersen, revealed her departure from the Northern Super League leaders at the season’s end last month.

Moscato, a distinguished member of the Canada Soccer Hall of Fame, boasts an impressive career that includes three Women’s World Cup appearances and a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympics. She has previously served as a coach in Denmark, Mexico, and most recently, Saudi Arabia.

Under a two-season agreement, Moscato will join the team this year and focus on preparing for 2027, with an emphasis on recruitment. Team CEO Thomas Gilbert praised her leadership skills, coaching expertise, and in-depth knowledge of Canadian soccer in a press release.

Expressing her excitement, Moscato stated, “The Rapid has made significant strides in a short period of time… I am eager to continue this progress and create an environment where players can excel, grow, and compete at the highest level.”

Currently leading the NSL standings with 10 victories in 15 matches, Ottawa Rapid’s only defeat occurred in late May. Their upcoming game will be held in Calgary at 4 p.m. this Saturday, with live coverage available on CBC Gem.
