Published on

Motorists are encountering heavy traffic congestion on a major motorway this morning as two lanes are shut down due to a collision.

The M6 is experiencing increased traffic flow with two lanes closed on the northbound side between junctions 25 in Wigan and 26 at the Orrell Interchange in Greater Manchester.

According to Inrix, a traffic monitoring service, lanes one and two of the four lanes have been closed, leading to queuing traffic as a result of the accident on the M6 Northbound between junctions 25 and 26. Traffic is backed up to junction 24 in Ashton-in-Makerfield, as indicated by Google traffic data.

After an earlier crash, all lanes on the M6 have now been reopened.

Inrix has issued an update stating, “Two lanes are closed, causing slow traffic due to an accident on the M6 Northbound from J25 to J26. Lanes one and two are affected.”

A recent National Highways update mentions that delays are expected until approximately 10:30 am today, with traffic conditions predicted to normalize between 10:15 and 10:30 am on 1 October 2025.

Travelers passing through the Orrell Interchange on the M6 have been cautioned about prolonged heavy congestion until around 8:30-8:45 am due to the ongoing crash situation.

The incident has led to the closure of two lanes on the M6 northbound between junctions J25 and J26, causing delays for drivers on the southbound carriageway as well.

Delays are also being reported in various areas near the crash site, including junction 23 at the East Lancs Road and approaching the M62 at junction 21A.
