Despite being defeated by Royale Pagaille a year earlier, Grey Dawning dominated the race in the final stretch, pulling ahead by two-and-three-quarter lengths from its rival. Skelton, emotionally overwhelmed, expressed his gratitude towards the team for preparing the horse, especially after the recent birth of his daughter Anna.

Reflecting on the victory, Skelton commented, “Last year was disappointing due to the weather conditions, but today he was exceptional. Clare and Tom (Messenger), our assistant who trains him daily, did an outstanding job in getting him ready for me to enjoy this moment.”

Amidst the excitement, Skelton shared his joy about his daughter’s birth, stating, “I’m really proud of Bridget and can’t wait to get back home.” He emphasized the importance of family moments like these in the midst of sporting achievements.

The significant win contributed £113,870 to Dan Skelton’s earnings, consolidating his lead at the top of the trainers’ standings with total prize money exceeding £1.2 million since April.
