Prince Harry fondly recalled the moment his late grandmother, the Queen, met his children during their last visit before her passing in 2022. In his 2023 memoir, the Duke of Sussex shared how the Queen met Princess Lilibet, then almost one year old, and her brother Prince Archie, three years old. The royal couple had traveled to the UK with their children for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June 2022, where Archie had even practiced his bow in anticipation.
After the Queen’s passing, Harry and Meghan remained in the UK for her funeral, before eventually returning to America. Harry described the emotional departure, emphasizing how they cherished moments with their children, reflecting on the last visit with their grandmother.
During the Platinum Jubilee visit, the late Queen had the opportunity to meet her great-granddaughter Lilibet for the first and only time, who was named in her honor. There were rumors that Prince Harry was eager for a photo of the Queen with Lilibet, but the Queen declined, citing a minor eye issue. Despite Harry’s persistence for a photo, it never materialized as the Queen passed away three months later.
Royal expert Camilla Tominey, in an article for the Telegraph, mentioned Harry’s determination for the photo but highlighted the Queen’s refusal due to her temporary condition. The family’s desire for a special photograph capturing the two Lilibets together was left unfulfilled, with the Queen’s unexpected passing soon after.
