Toni argues that tennis has become overly focused on power, neglecting the strategic elements that characterized the game in the past. In an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Toni expressed concerns about the aggressive nature of contemporary tennis, highlighting the lack of tactical players like Federico Coria and Gaston Gaudio. He believes that the emphasis on hitting the ball with maximum force leads to frequent injuries due to the extreme physical exertion required.

Contrary to his uncle’s views, Rafael Nadal supports the idea of using smaller rackets in tennis to make the game less violent and more accessible to amateurs. He believes that reducing the size of rackets would add a new dimension to the sport, fostering a balance between power and finesse in players’ performances.

Toni doubts that tennis authorities will heed his suggestions, citing the sport’s reluctance to change and its preference for maintaining the status quo.
