Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood criticized pro-Palestine demonstrators as “un-British” for protesting shortly after the Manchester synagogue attack. Ms. Mahmood condemned the protesters as “dishonorable” and expressed disappointment over their actions. The attack resulted in the deaths of Adrian Daulby, 53, and Melvin Cravitz, 66, with three others hospitalized in critical condition.
Following the interception of a Gaza-bound aid flotilla and the detention of individuals onboard, including Greta Thunberg, thousands gathered in various UK cities for demonstrations. Ms. Mahmood voiced her disapproval of the protests, labelling the behavior as “fundamentally un-British” and lacking in honor.
The Metropolitan Police reported 40 arrests during the protests, which saw clashes with officers near Downing Street. The incident occurred when terrorist Jihad Al-Shamie attacked worshippers at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in Manchester on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.
Addressing concerns within the Jewish community, Ms. Mahmood emphasized the importance of resuming normal activities and assured the community of adequate policing resources and collaboration with security agencies. She urged Jewish individuals to continue their daily routines without fear and promised to prioritize their safety and security.
