Performance issues are a common concern for iPhone users who have older devices. Over time, devices may start to feel slower, particularly after Apple’s annual iOS update in September. However, a significant change is on the horizon for 2026.

Recently unveiled at WWDC in California, iOS 27 brings a range of enhancements, including a more intelligent Siri assistant, improved Apple Intelligence, enhanced photo editing tools, and new customization options for the visually appealing Liquid Glass display. Notably, Apple also promises a substantial performance boost with this update.

According to the tech giant, iOS 27 is expected to accelerate app launch speeds by up to 30%, resulting in a smoother everyday user experience. Moreover, Apple guarantees that photo loading times across devices will be up to 70% faster, and AirDrop transfers will be up to 80% quicker.

What sets this improvement apart is that it benefits not just the latest iPhone 17 Pro Max but also older models like the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12. This enhancement is made possible by a feature called the CPU scheduler, which prioritizes the app on the screen, allocating maximum processing power to it rather than distributing it across all phone functions.

Through dynamic performance adjustments, users can anticipate a significantly enhanced device experience. Apple is confident that this upgrade will prolong the usability of older devices, potentially eliminating the need to upgrade iPhones that are still in good condition.

Apple explained, “Improvements across platforms push key system capabilities forward so everyday tasks feel faster, smoother, and more enjoyable.” While the release date for iOS 27 has not been announced, it is expected to be available in September.
