Energy Secretary Ed Miliband is poised to denounce Reform for attacking workers through their opposition to eco-friendly energy initiatives. Nigel Farage’s party has vowed to eliminate net zero projects and has actively opposed green energy programs supported by Miliband and the Labour government.
During a significant address on Wednesday, Miliband will assert, “We are up against an unprecedented challenge. Reform threatens to undo all our efforts. They have declared a ‘war’ on clean energy. Let’s be clear on the implications of this conflict: It is a direct assault on the employees at the Siemens wind turbine facility in Hull.”
He continues, “It is an attack on the laborers constructing carbon capture and storage facilities in Teesside, and on the workers at the new cable factory in Port Nigg, Scotland. This is an assault on the hardworking people of the UK.”
The Energy Secretary will also condemn Farage’s party for surrendering in the battle against the climate crisis, labeling their proposals as a “betrayal of the youth in our nation and those yet to be born.”
Moreover, Miliband will use his speech to unveil an extension of the initiative to install solar panels in schools and hospitals to reduce expenses. Approximately 200 schools and 200 NHS sites have already received support under Labour’s Great British Energy program, a state-owned energy company.
He concludes by stating, “This represents the logical, patriotic argument for embracing clean energy under a Labour administration. Clean energy reducing costs to benefit students and patients. This showcases the impact of a Labour administration; advocating for the working class through our clean energy agenda.”
Additionally, he will present a new Fair Work Charter to ensure that clean energy workers receive fair pay and workplace rights. He will outline a new plan for clean energy jobs, aiming to double employment in the sector from 430,000 to 830,000 by the end of the decade.
