The Labour conference came to a festive close with The Mirror’s exclusive party, where Cabinet ministers, MPs, political staff, and journalists unwound after a hectic few days in Liverpool. The evening began with a touching moment as Justice minister Alex Davies-Jones delivered a moving rendition of “You’ll Never Walk Alone” accompanied by Hillsborough campaigners.
Margaret Aspinall, whose son was a victim of the Hillsborough tragedy, made a compelling plea for a new law to prevent cover-ups, urging for swift and unaltered legislation.
The party atmosphere heightened with karaoke performances by prominent figures like Wes Streeting, Lisa Nandy, and Jonathan Ashworth, who dazzled the crowd with their energetic rendition of Oasis’ “Don’t Look Back in Anger.”
Notable appearances included Housing Secretary Steve Reed in a notable ‘Build, Baby, Build’ cap singing Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline,” and Chancellor Rachel Reeves and Work and Pensions Secretary Pat McFadden enjoying the festivities.
The event, a long-standing tradition after the Prime Minister’s keynote speech, was hosted by The Mirror in collaboration with InHouse Communications, featuring drinks from Diageo. The iconic Mirror chicken added to the flair of the night, with Health Secretary Wes Streeting even posing for a photo with it.
The celebration continued with vibrant performances like Sophie Huskisson’s rendition of Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” and Mikey Smith’s lively take on Green Day’s “American Idiot.”
Guests including Jim Pickard from the FT and Beth Rigby from Sky News reveled in the lively atmosphere, with Jonathan Ashworth basking in the energy of the room after his stage performance in a striking gold sequinned blazer.
