Renowned former Formula 1 driver Andrea de Adamich has passed away at 84 years old. De Adamich, who competed for McLaren and Ferrari, participated in 34 World Championship Grand Prix events.

His F1 career came to an end following a significant 10-car crash during the 1973 British Grand Prix at Silverstone, resulting in a broken ankle and other leg injuries. Despite this setback, he transitioned into a successful broadcasting career, serving as a popular commentator and TV expert known for his engaging debates.

De Adamich notably hosted the television show Grand Prix on Italia 1 from 1978 to 2012. In recognition of his contributions, he was appointed Commendatore of the Order of Merit in 2022, a prestigious civilian honor in Italy.

Hailing from Trieste, De Adamich began his racing journey by clinching the Italian Formula 3 championship in 1965 before joining Alfa Romeo. His achievements included winning the European Touring Car Championship in 1966 and 1967 with the Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA, followed by his debut with Ferrari in 1968.

Throughout his career, De Adamich also competed for teams like March, Surtees, and Brabham, achieving success in endurance racing alongside notable figures. He secured victories in events such as the 200 Miles of Buenos Aires in 1970 and the 1000 KM of Brands Hatch and Six Hours of Watkins Glen in 1971.

Additionally, he earned podium finishes in all four 1000km races he entered in his final season in 1974. While he also participated in Le Mans, finishing fourth in 1972, his impact in the television realm garnered widespread appreciation.

Fans and colleagues mourned De Adamich’s passing, highlighting his professionalism and passion for the sport. Tributes poured in on social media, celebrating his contributions as a driver, instructor, communicator, and commentator. Sky has recently enhanced its Ultimate TV and Sky Sports package to include additional streaming services, showcasing full coverage of Formula 1 along with other sports events.
