EE has unveiled an enhanced version of its Scam Guard service to combat the increasing number of scams targeting mobile users in the UK. With millions of pounds lost daily to cybercriminals employing various tactics, the upgrade aims to provide improved protection against fraudulent activities.
Available to all EE pay-monthly mobile customers for a monthly fee of £2, the updated Scam Guard is designed to offer enhanced security features, aiming to thwart a higher number of scam attempts. Since its initial launch in 2024, the service has already prevented 169 million scams and spam incidents, with expectations to double this figure over the next year.
The core of the upgraded Scam Guard is the AI Triple-Lock Protection system, incorporating three key components powered by Norton’s Genie AI engine. Safe Email offers proactive scam protection for email accounts, while Safe SMS utilizes advanced AI to detect sophisticated scams in text messages in real-time. Additionally, Safe Web safeguards customers from online scams and malicious websites during their browsing activities.
The new Scam Guard upgrade also introduces a Scam Assistant tool, enabling users to upload screenshots of suspicious messages or websites for instant feedback on their safety. Moreover, Social Media Monitoring and Dark Web Monitoring features track and alert customers to any potentially harmful activity online, allowing for prompt action.
Malcolm Cubitt, Director of Product for Mobile at EE, emphasized the importance of staying ahead of evolving fraud threats, highlighting the network’s commitment to enhancing cybersecurity measures. By leveraging industry alliances, network-level controls, and a team of security experts, EE aims to provide customers with advanced protection through the enhanced Scam Guard service.
