Sky Q has long been a popular TV device in the UK, known for its ability to store content on its built-in hard drive. Recently, Manhattan introduced a new competitor to Sky Q with its S4-R Freesat 4K TV Recorder. This device, similar to Sky Q, uses a dish to deliver shows and movies and offers internal storage for recordings. Users can enjoy a full interactive TV guide and the ability to pause live TV.
One key advantage of the Manhattan S4-R is the absence of subscription fees after purchase, providing access to over 100 TV and radio channels without additional costs. While premium content like Sky Sports and Sky Cinema is not available, it serves as a solid entertainment option without the burden of extra bills.
Like Sky Q, the S4-R can simultaneously record multiple channels and comes with a 500GB hard drive, offering storage for about 300 hours of content. Larger 1TB and 2TB versions are forthcoming for those needing more space. It also supports live TV controls similar to Sky, allowing users to pause and rewind broadcasts.
Manhattan promises a user-friendly interface for the S4-R, with search functionality and access to over 60,000 hours of on-demand content through various apps like BBC iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4, and My5. Alex Arbab-Zadeh, Manhattan’s COO, highlighted the enhanced recording capabilities of the S4-R, which can now record up to four programs simultaneously, doubling the previous limit.
Described as a compelling alternative to subscription TV, the S4-R offers flexibility, choice, and a way to avoid costly monthly bills. The device will be available from retailers such as Currys, John Lewis, Argos, and Richer Sounds, starting at £219.99 for the 500GB model, with the 1TB and 2TB versions priced at £249.99 and £279.99, respectively.
The Manhattan S4-R is set to launch this month, providing viewers with a subscription-free entertainment experience that combines convenience and affordability.
