“Ryanair Mandates Digital Boarding Passes for All Flights”

Published on

Ryanair will enforce the use of digital boarding passes exclusively starting next week. The airline has issued a notification to customers well in advance of the upcoming change on Wednesday, November 12. As of this date, passengers will no longer have the option to print a physical paper boarding pass; instead, they must utilize the digital boarding pass generated within the “myRyanair” app on their mobile device (smartphone or tablet) during the check-in process for all flights.

According to Ryanair, the majority of passengers, approximately 80% of the over 207 million yearly travelers, already make use of digital boarding passes. However, around 40 million passengers who currently prefer alternative methods, such as printing their passes, will be impacted by this shift.

Ryanair’s Chief Marketing Officer, Dara Brady, emphasized the benefits of this transition, stating that going completely digital will offer a quicker, more efficient, and environmentally friendly experience for passengers. The move aims to provide easier access to innovative in-app features like ‘Order to Seat,’ real-time flight updates, and direct notifications during disruptions, enhancing the overall travel experience for all customers through the myRyanair app.

Additionally, Ryanair highlighted that this transition will lead to reduced airport costs, subsequently lowering fares for all passengers, and will save approximately 300 tonnes of paper annually. The airline also addressed concerns of passengers who may encounter issues, assuring that those without access to a smartphone or tablet can still receive a free boarding pass at the airport if they have completed online check-in beforehand.

Furthermore, Ryanair confirmed that passengers will have access to their digital boarding pass even without a mobile signal, as long as they have completed the online check-in process.
