US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania are currently guests of King Charles and Queen Camilla at an extravagant state banquet in Windsor Castle, as part of their official visit to the UK.

In line with tradition, a team of chefs has meticulously crafted a menu, following the customary French format, to represent the hosting nation. The detailed menu for the evening has been unveiled, featuring a starter of Hampshire watercress panna cotta with parmesan shortbread and quail egg salad.

The main course comprises organic Norfolk chicken ballotine wrapped in courgettes, served with a savory thyme jus. For dessert, guests will indulge in a vanilla ice cream bombe with Kentish raspberry sorbet and lightly poached Victoria plums.

The wine selection includes Wiston Estate Cuvée 2016, Domaine Bonneau de Martray Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2018, Ridge Vineyards Monte Bello 2000, and Pol Roger extra cuvee de Reserve 1998, a favorite of Sir Winston Churchill.

Following dinner, attendees will be offered Warre’s 1945 Vintage Port, as a nod to President Trump being the 45th and 47th US President, along with Hennessy 1912 Cognac Grande Champagne, commemorating the birth year of Trump’s mother in Scotland. Additionally, Bowmore Queen’s Cask 1980 Islay will be served, a special gift to Queen Elizabeth in 1980.

Adding a modern touch, a custom cocktail named Transatlantic Whisky Sour has been concocted for the event, blending Johnnie Walker Black with marmalade for a unique twist.

A notable departure from past state visits is Trump’s decision to abstain from a cocktail honoring his visit, due to his lifelong abstinence from alcohol following his brother’s struggles with alcoholism.

This evening’s menu contrasts with the lavish feast served during Trump’s previous visit in 2019, hosted by the late Queen Elizabeth, featuring dishes like steamed fillet of halibut and saddle of Windsor lamb.

Notably, during the French state visit last year, a collaborative menu by French chef Raymond Blanc and the Royal Household was presented, showcasing a fusion of British and French culinary influences. This culinary diplomacy reflects the longstanding “special relationship” between the UK and the US.

Members of the royal family, including the Prince and Princess of Wales and Princess Anne, are expected to make appearances at the state banquet, showcasing the enduring ties between the two nations.
