Households across the UK are encouraged to apply for a £100 financial support provided through the Household Support Fund. This fund, managed by local councils, aims to assist low-income families facing increasing expenses like food, energy, and water bills.

Depending on the council, eligible households may receive vouchers or direct cash payments. City of York Council has highlighted that over 2,000 eligible residents in their area have yet to claim the £100 support payment for this winter.

The payment, which does not require repayment, is automatically deposited into the recipient’s bank account. Those already receiving council tax support are eligible for this financial aid.

Residents in York have been informed about the support, with around 5,000 individuals qualifying for the payment. To apply, applicants need to provide a recent bank statement showing relevant details by the deadline of November 23, 2025.

Cllr Katie Lomas of City of York Council emphasized the importance of claiming the fund before the deadline, highlighting its non-repayable nature and the significant help it can offer during the challenging winter months.

For residents outside of York, it is advisable to check with your local council regarding the support available through the Household Support Fund. Different councils may offer varying amounts of financial aid based on household size and income criteria.

To be eligible for this support, individuals must be receiving specific benefits and have a household income below set thresholds, varying for single adults and couples/families, including single parents.
