“Secret Service Dismantles Dangerous Network Near UN”

Published on

The US Secret Service has taken down a network of electronic devices near the United Nations headquarters in New York in anticipation of a speech by the President of the United States.

The Secret Service disclosed that it had uncovered an immediate danger to Donald Trump as world leaders convened in New York City for the UN General Assembly. The network comprised SIM cards and servers capable of disrupting the telephone network, potentially obstructing 911 calls.

Responsible for safeguarding top officials, including Trump, the Secret Service located about 300 SIM servers and 100,000 SIM cards spread across various sites in the New York tristate area.

The sophisticated network had the ability to disable mobile networks and safeguard communication among adversaries, according to the Secret Service. The agency’s director, Sean Curran, emphasized the significant risk posed by this network of devices to the country’s telecommunications.

Authorities cautioned that the devices could execute a variety of telecommunications attacks, such as flooding networks with up to 30 million text messages per minute, leading to severe repercussions for the city.

Matt McCool, the special agent in charge of the Secret Service’s New York field office, explained how the network could disrupt communication, rendering cell phones and text messaging useless. He highlighted the potentially catastrophic impact on the city, particularly when combined with events linked to the UN General Assembly.

The discovery of the covert network was part of a comprehensive Secret Service investigation initiated in the spring in response to telecommunications threats against high-ranking US government officials.

During the raids on the locations, agents uncovered numerous servers and shelves filled with SIM cards, including over 100,000 activated ones and many awaiting deployment. McCool noted that forensic analysis is ongoing to examine the phones and communications thoroughly.

Although there were no specific threats reported against the General Assembly, the Secret Service swiftly dismantled the network as the devices were situated within 35 miles of the global summit.
