Planes at Heathrow Airport faced challenging conditions due to strong winds yesterday. Videos captured multiple aircraft struggling with crosswinds, leading some to abort landings and make additional attempts.
British Airways and Aer Lingus flights nearly landed but had to pull back, while an American Airlines plane encountered a turbulent landing. A yellow wind warning issued by the Met Office covered most of England and all of Wales until 6 pm on Tuesday. Wet and windy weather is forecasted to persist, with rain alerts issued for parts of Wales on Wednesday.
Recent windy weather across the country saw gusts reaching up to 80mph, according to the Met Office’s overnight records on Sunday. Meteorologists have cautioned about heavy rainfall, with up to 60mm expected within six hours in north-west Wales, including Ceredigion, Conwy, Gwynedd, and Powys. Additionally, south and south-west Wales may experience up to 70mm of rain, mainly concentrated on south-west hills.
Areas like Swansea, Carmarthen, and parts of Cardiff are at risk of flooding, potential disruptions to public transport, and power supply interruptions. The Met Office’s Alex Deakin mentioned that Tuesday would be calmer but warned of more wet and windy conditions later in the day.
Scattered showers are anticipated for Wales, South West England, and northern Scotland in the afternoon, while eastern Scotland and central and eastern England should expect a dry and pleasant day.
