Virgin Media is set to upgrade some broadband customers to new routers for improved performance. Users still utilizing older Hub 3 and Hub 4 devices will soon have the opportunity to switch to the more advanced Hub 5 technology at no extra charge.
The Hub 5 features upgraded Wi-Fi 6 technology, providing faster and more reliable connections compared to the older routers. Eligible customers will be notified via email in the coming weeks and months as the gradual rollout extends throughout 2026.
Virgin Media’s latest router, the Hub 5, incorporates Wi-Fi 6 technology and seven internal antennas to enhance coverage within homes. The company plans to upgrade selected customers with older hubs, benefiting thousands by the end of 2026. Customers need not take any action until contacted by Virgin Media directly, or they can verify eligibility through their My Virgin Media account online.
To determine the router model, users can check the sticker on the device or log in to the Virgin Media Connect app. Upgrading to the Hub 5 can significantly enhance broadband experiences, offering broader Wi-Fi coverage, improved stability, and support for future updates. The router is optimized for faster Gig1 speeds, enabling quicker downloads and streaming capabilities.
Wi-Fi 6 is the latest wireless networking technology, delivering faster speeds, increased efficiency, and better performance in busy environments. It can accommodate more connected devices simultaneously, providing superior performance across both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Wi-Fi 6 is also energy-efficient, making it suitable for modern smart homes with multiple connected devices and high data requirements. While Wi-Fi 7 technology is available, Wi-Fi 6 is ideal for most users.
