Flooding caused disruptions on a major highway yesterday evening, leading to significant traffic delays as heavy rain and wind battered the region. The M62 experienced closures near Huddersfield due to intense rainfall, resulting in lane closures and congestion along the westbound lanes shortly after a yellow weather warning was issued by the Met Office.

In addition to national alerts, a specific warning was issued for the M62 area, highlighting the potential for localized damage from strong winds and rain. Traffic conditions on the M62 are gradually improving, as indicated by AA maps no longer showing congestion in the amber zone.

Besides the M62, other roads like the M56, M6, M61, and A50 have also been affected by severe weather conditions, with reports of flooding across England according to Traffic England. Motorists using these routes have been advised to exercise caution by the Met Office due to challenging road conditions.

The Met Office has urged people in the Midlands and northern England, including those on the affected M62 section, to stay informed about changing weather conditions and adjust travel plans accordingly to avoid potential delays. Traffic England has classified the situation at junctions J24 and J22 as “severe” due to flooding incidents.

As heavy rain persists in Wales and northern England, the risk of flooding and travel disruptions remains high, particularly along the M62 corridor and in the Pennine regions. Strong winds could also cause damage in some areas.
