A significant change is looming for certain households that rely on BT TV for streaming services. Users of specific BT TV set-top boxes will soon lose access to the popular Netflix app due to an update that will render older hardware incompatible.
The affected devices include the TV Recordable Box (G4) and the TV Box (Z4). BT explained that Netflix is enhancing its app for an improved user experience, resulting in the discontinuation of support for these models.
Effective from March 4, 2026, customers using the mentioned boxes will no longer be able to stream Netflix content like Drive to Survive, Stranger Things, Seven Dials, and Breaking Bad unless they switch to newer equipment. BT assured that newer models will not face the Netflix block.
While existing Netflix subscriptions will remain unaffected, BT advised users with affected boxes to consider upgrading to newer versions. The company confirmed that other BT TV Boxes, such as the 4K Recordable Box (G5), will continue to support Netflix.
Netflix will continue to be accessible through alternative devices like smart TVs, Fire TV Sticks, gaming consoles, and Apple TV boxes. Customers are encouraged to reach out to BT for guidance on transitioning to a compatible device.
