A courageous 16-year-old girl bravely fought off a group of sharks but sadly had to undergo a leg amputation afterward.
Annabelle Carlson, a teenager from Aspen, Colorado, survived a shark attack while on vacation in Belize, sustaining injuries to her hands and leg. The incident occurred during a diving excursion with her family, who were enjoying what was supposed to be a fun holiday.
Despite encountering multiple sharks and marine life during the dive, the situation took a dangerous turn when Annabelle and her siblings decided to take turns jumping into the water from their boat. Tragically, a shark targeted Annabelle, biting her hands, which she valiantly defended by punching the predator.
Facing a second shark that attacked her right leg, Annabelle’s ordeal was far from over. Quick-thinking onlookers threw oxygen tanks at the second shark, allowing Annabelle to be rescued onto the boat. Emergency measures were taken, including applying a tourniquet to her leg to stop the bleeding, before she was airlifted to a hospital.
Following the harrowing experience, Annabelle recounted the difficulty of staying conscious during the ordeal, emphasizing the gravity of the situation. Her mother, Kellie, expressed gratitude for the support received during Annabelle’s recovery, acknowledging her daughter’s resilience.
After spending time in a Miami hospital, Annabelle later faced further challenges when an infection led to the amputation of her leg below the knee. Despite the setback, Annabelle remains positive, even finding humor in dressing up as a shark attack survivor for Halloween.
Inspired by her experience, Annabelle aims to establish a foundation to provide first aid kits and support to those in need. A fundraising campaign on GoFundMe has garnered significant support for Annabelle’s recovery journey, showcasing the community’s solidarity with her resilience and strength.
